Transformation of Sodas 2123: From Abandonment to Artistic Hub
Once a boarding school for troubled youth, Sodas 2123 fell into disrepair and became a haven for squatters. However, five years ago, the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association breathed new life into the space. They transformed it into a vibrant network of studios and galleries, utilizing materials with deep cultural and historical roots. Visitors can now sit on benches crafted from pillars of the old Soviet Palace of Trade Unions, or admire flip-up chairs sourced from the national theatre, all while walking on paving stones from the cathedral square.

In recent weeks, Sodas 2123 has emerged as a central hub for a movement that is shaking the foundations of Lithuanian politics. Drawing inspiration from the nation’s historical resistance to Soviet domination, the organizers are rallying to safeguard Lithuania’s cultural identity and democratic values against perceived internal threats.
