Protest in Boston Leads to Arrests and Injuries
Thirteen individuals were detained by Boston police following a pro-Palestine demonstration that escalated into violence on Tuesday evening, resulting in injuries to four officers, as reported by the authorities.
Demonstration Turns Chaotic
The protest, which began around 6:50 p.m., saw participants moving from Boston Common towards the junction of Tremont and Winter Streets, according to an email from Boston police spokesperson John Boyle.
Confrontation with Law Enforcement
“At this point, the demonstrators became aggressive towards the police, damaging a marked vehicle, assaulting officers, obstructing traffic, and releasing red smoke into the air,” Boyle stated.
Officer Injuries and Arrests
Two officers required hospitalization due to their injuries, which included broken bones, though none were life-threatening. As of 9:40 p.m., there were no reports of injured protesters.
Legal Proceedings to Follow
The police apprehended eight men and five women, though they had not been formally charged by 8:50 p.m. Further details on the charges are expected to be released on Wednesday morning.
