Central Asia Expands Aviation Fleet with Boeing Purchases
In a significant move, the Trump administration has unveiled agreements to supply up to 37 Boeing aircraft to airlines in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. This announcement was made on Thursday, highlighting the growing aviation ties between the United States and Central Asia.
Kazakhstan’s Fleet Modernization
The Commerce Department has confirmed that Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s national airline, intends to acquire up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This purchase aims to enhance and update their current fleet, allowing for expanded routes and improved service.
Currently, Air Astana operates three Boeing 767 jets, facilitating connections between Kazakhstan and various regions in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The addition of the new Dreamliners will enable the airline to extend its reach to North America.
Expanding Horizons for Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
Somon Air, the national carrier of Tajikistan, is set to purchase up to 14 Boeing aircraft, including four 787s and ten 737 MAX models. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan Airways plans to add eight more 787 planes to its fleet, further strengthening its aviation capabilities.
These orders were formalized during the C5+1 Summit in Washington, marking a decade of diplomatic collaboration between the United States and the five Central Asian republics.
Boeing’s Global Trade Impact
Boeing’s aircraft orders have become a cornerstone of international trade agreements, particularly under the Trump administration. This year alone, the company has secured numerous contracts as part of various trade deals.
One significant potential deal involves negotiations with China, where Boeing is in discussions to sell up to 500 jets. This would represent a major advancement in the world’s second-largest aviation market, which has seen a slowdown in orders due to US-China trade tensions.
