Renewed Tensions: Israel’s Recent Strikes on Gaza
Just days after a fragile ceasefire was established between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Sunday, October 19, that they had initiated a series of airstrikes targeting Hamas positions in southern Gaza.

According to local reports, the strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 33 individuals, as confirmed by the news agency AFP.
The IDF stated that the attacks were a direct response to what they described as a “blatant breach” of the ceasefire by Hamas, targeting multiple sites across the Gaza Strip.
Current Developments in Gaza
- Following accusations against Hamas for violating the ceasefire, Israel has halted humanitarian aid to Gaza, as reported by a security official to AFP.
- The official stated, “Humanitarian aid transfers to Gaza have been suspended indefinitely due to Hamas’s clear breach of the agreement.”
- Earlier, Israel justified its military actions as necessary to “neutralize threats and dismantle tunnels and military installations used for terrorist activities.”
- The IDF reported that the strikes were in retaliation for an anti-tank missile and gunfire directed at their troops in the Rafah area, which were engaged in dismantling terrorist infrastructure.
- In a subsequent statement, Israeli forces claimed to have targeted “armed terrorists” approaching their positions in Beit Lahia.
- The IDF emphasized their commitment to “eliminate any threats” in the region.
- The escalation followed a U.S. report on Saturday indicating “credible information” about a planned attack by Hamas, which the group denied.
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated on Saturday that the conflict would only conclude once Hamas is disarmed and Gaza is demilitarized.
